Key Responsibilities:
Support to WAP programme teams and Implementing Partners
- Design climate-resilient and energy-efficient WASH infrastructure schemes preferably using AutoCAD, review these in conjunction with the relevant government departments (where needed/ possible), partner academic institutions, and implement these on the ground independently or through partner organisations.
- Review existing global standards of climate-resilient water & sanitation infrastructure and develop climate proofing guidelines in collaboration with climate change specialist where needed.
- Provide support and guidance to develop sustainable management models for WASH services – this may include feasibility studies, lifecycle costing, training management committees/operators, developing O&M manuals, and supporting longer-term monitoring.
- Ensure that WaterAid global standards related to infrastructure quality, water quality and positive environment impacts by considering climate change are being adhered to within WA Pakistan WASH infrastructure. Develop such standards where these do not exist.
- Capacity-building of implementing partners and providing technical support as needed.
- Ensure proper implementation of WaterAid Pakistan’s ‘water quality policy’ and ‘health & safety at construction sites policy’ within projects and practiced by implementing partners as well as contractors.
- Input to new project proposals, where required, to ensure that appropriate technologies/ solutions are proposed and adequately budgeted.
Developing WASH Technological Models
- Lead and support action research on climate-resilient and energy-efficient water and sanitation technologies for providing viable, cost effective and replicable technological solutions for Pakistan. Stay informed of innovations and developments in WASH technologies/ approaches that may be relevant in the contexts where WaterAid Pakistan operates.
- With the support of programme teams and academic partner(s) develop viable climate-resilient and energy-efficient water & sanitation technological models.
- Successful implementation of tested technological models in the field.
- Document the successfully implemented technological model for influencing its replication by stakeholders.
Knowledge management and Sharing WASH Technologies
- Maintain effective coordination with relevant programme teams in the UK and within WAP programme teams for bringing best technical knowledge to ongoing or in initiating new work.
- In consultation with the line manager, and support from programme teams develop quality papers/ documents on successful WASH technology models for presentation and sharing at various national and international forums.
